Malibu Barbie is now living out of her Corvette

Malibu was the scene of devastating, fast moving fires yesterday. Suzanne Somers' house burned down. We all wept. Well, maybe not. But, the fact that a California fire burned down 8 houses in a densely populated area, with the best efforts of the firefighters to prevent that from happening does show how maybe building (and rebuilding) in an area prone to fires is a bad idea, from both the homeowner's and the insurance companies' point of view.
"Malibu has frequently been the scene of devastating fires. In 1993, hundreds of homes were lost and three people were killed. A 1996 fire injured 11 people and destroyed six homes."
After Katrina, many people question the wisdom of rebuilding a city so obviously in harm's way, of rebuilding in a place where emergency workers and firefighters would have a professional and moral obligation to rush in to danger to protect lives and property.
I'd like to be hearing those same questions raised about Malibu.
Or maybe since Malibu residents are filthy rich and New Orleans residents are (for the most part) not, those questions won't be raised.
